Mother and Me

“Mother and Me” diptych is a homage to the complexity of the mother-daughter relationship. For me, this is a very personal piece, bonding and separating my mother and me. It is a juxtaposition of our personalities. Although both images burst with personal identity and intimacy, both of our faces are absent. It is stimulating the observers to perceive us from a different unconventional point of view. It is a MacGuffin that the main subject of the portrait stays hidden, for other things to emerge as the main focus of the viewers’ attention. Both these images were captured using an analogue Nikon FM2 camera on a black and white 35mm negative film. Shoot in Belgrade (Serbia), 2003.
